Alfa Nero – clarity on the horizon?
5th December 2024
The confusion surrounding the ownership of the 82M Oceanco yacht ALFA NERO remains….. but is there clarity on the horizon??
It’s reported that the Court decision regarding the constitutionality of the Antigua and Barbuda government’s seizure and sale is expected in February 2025.
She was seized in 2022 in the round of International Sanctions against Russian Owners/Putin sympathisers with Russian Oligarch Andrey Guryev deemed the “beneficial owner”.
Deemed “abandoned” by the Antigua and Barbuda government and with a view to paying outstanding crew wages and reducing the financial burden of maintenance, she was put up for sale; being snapped up for $40 million just 10 days on the market.
This sale has however been challenged by Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov, daughter of Andrey Guryev, who claims that she is the actual eventual beneficial owner, after drilling through a sophisticated company and trust arrangements.
Much Like the PHI situation, the sanctions against yacht owners have been wide ranging…the ramifications even more so.
