Amadea – update

11th February 2025

The saga of the superyacht Amadea continues, highlighting the intricate legal battles surrounding high-value assets linked to sanctioned individuals. Recently, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York filed a civil forfeiture complaint against the 106-meter vessel, alleging that its beneficial owner was Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, thus putting the yacht in a forfeitable position.

Controversy seems to follow the yacht and Mr Kerimov, including a significant ruling by an Isle of Man tribunal in relation to a substantial VAT assessment and wider allegations of Mr Kerimov’s involvement in AML/CFT breaches.

Is this another yacht being used as a pawn in a game of geo-political chess??  Although with President Trump’s move to shut down the KleptoCapture Task Force, I doubt this is not the last we’ve heard of this.  Watch this space!!
