MV Sounion – towed to safety – Sept 16

Under the careful watch of EU Naval force ASPIDES, the stricken MV Sounion, has been towed to safety in the Red Sea. The Greek flagged oil tanker has been immobile and on fire since it was targeted buy Houthi rebels on 21 August. The next phase of the salvage is the safe transfer of 1 million barrels of crude.

For now at least it would appear that the immediate risk of environmental disaster as been averted.
