…..when it becomes a political hot potato!
Royal Romance, the 92.5metre Feadship was the height of marine opulence, but is now the seemingly cursed poster child of the geo-politics surrounding mega yachts at present. Croatian and Ukrainian authorities say that Royal Romance was owned by Viktor Medvedchuk, a former Soviet lawyer, Ukrainian politician, oligarch and supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
She was seized in Croatia in March 2022 under Sanction rules, and has been the subject of forced reflagging, possible clandestine re-acquisition, legal arguments over actual ownership and failed liquidation auctions.
What’s next for the yacht is anyone’s guess….one thing for certain, is that it wont be dull!!
